Licenses and Registrations

Voter Registration- New residents to the area must register 25 days prior to elections, be18 years of age or older, be a resident of North Carolina and the county in which you live for at least 30 days prior to the election and be a U.S. citizen. To receive the North
Carolina Voter Registration Application, stop by the Board of Elections office in the government complex at Bolivia off U.S. 17 Business 253-2620, or 888-445-2504. The office is open weekdays, 8:30 AM-5 PM. Residents can also register public libraries in any state agency, including the Health Department at the Department of Social Services or pick up a form at the South Brunswick Islands Chamber of Commerce office located at 4948 Main Street Shallotte, (910) 754-6644.

Drivers License- New drivers must take at least two forms of identification to the driver's license bureau located at 5296 Main Street in Shallotte, 754-5114. The bureau is open weekdays from 8 AM to 5 PM, with no road test given after 4:30 PM. The driver must have two forms of identification. One of them must have a birthday. Such forms may include a birth certificate, school records, military discharge form DD 214, passport, income tax record, marriage license, limited driving privilege papers, unexpired vehicle registration immigration documents. If the driver has had a traffic violation within four years or is getting a North Carolina license for the first time, he or she must have Form 0123, proof of liability insurance, filled out by the insurance company, or copy of the original insurance policy. An out-of-state driver must have Form 0123, must take written, vision and sign test, and possibly a road test, and must surrender the old license.

Automobile Registration- To renew auto registration or get an auto title, owners must go to 5300-A Main Street in Shallotte, 754-4591. The office is open weekdays, 9 AM-noon and 1-5 PM. Owners must take renewal card or registration and must furnish the name of their liability insurance carrier and their policy number to renew auto registration. The price is $20 for cars, $21.50 for trucks, $12 for motorcycles, and $7 to $10 for trailers. To change an out-of-state title, an owner must show the title or the registration and insurance policy number and declare the vehicle mileage. For a new title, mileage information is required for cars
